Why do you think most publishing companies are NOT huge conglomerates like Amazon or Disney?
Because the publishing industry is very narrow and the skills needed are very specific, and as well as the fact it doesn't really affect the results of the consumers taking in their information, the publishers just publish what they pay them to.

MOJO gets bans in many places around the world, it sells in UK, USA, etc...

They are diversifying by creating other brands for their consumers.

              Representation

1) Love is represented by the lyrics and through the protagonists attitudes towards each other in the music video. Whereas in the second one its represented by emotive tone in lyrics, and also body language from the protagonist. And they both predominantly present heterosexuality.

2) The teenagers/young people are represented in the first one as having fun/enjoying themselves in love. In the second one they're represented as not having fun and being sad about love.

3) One of them appears to be represented as good, because they're enjoying themselves and having fun. However in the other music video the relationship seems as if its gone wrong, because she's sad out through the entirety of the song.

4) In the first song ethnicity is represented as more multicultural, and diverse. Whereas in the other music video it is less diverse and more predominantly white people.

5) The artists in the first song are represented as young people who like to have fun/ party. And in the other one she is represented as a depressed woman due to heartbreak.

6) Being young and having fun is a teenage value for the first one, and for the second one it looks as if being young is celebrated.

How does the Live Lounge appeal to the target audience and meet the BBC remit?

They use informal language, and promote artists with backgrounds and personal profile that the audience can relate to. This appeals to the target audience, as they are aged 15-29 and nourished by artists and radio presenters specifically picked to make the audience feel as if they can relate to them. This benefits the artists by promoting their music, it benefits the radio station by being diverse, and it benefits the audience by feeding them lots of music that they may have not heard before.

4th October Monday 2021

They use informal language, and promote artists with backgrounds and personal profile that the audience can relate to, "That was a proper snotty nose moment", this appeals to the target audience, as they are aged 15-29 and nourished by artists and radio presenters specifically picked to make the audience feel as if they can relate to them. If the audience can relate to what they are listening to, the chances are that they will enjoy the live lounge a lot more, they are not going to be entertained by any presenter picked at random talking formally. This also benefits the emerging artists by promoting their music, and it benefits the audience by feeding them lots of music that they may have not heard before, then of course it benefits the radio station, by having a platform that appeals to its audience.

Every significant radio programme will aim to target a range of different audiences, this is more or less a necessity, if a radio programme is only targeting a singular audience, then it is missing out on a substantial figure of listeners. They're going to want to attract as many people as possible to their radio programme, in order to attract advertisers, (for a commercial programme). However if it's a public service broadcaster, such as the BBC, they're going to want to attract listeners in order to receive their funding.

They do this by being diverse. For example, the BBC have a range of radio stations, each targeting a different audience, having different presenters, artists, and overall factors that specifically apply to its target audience, so that they find it appealing.

Mise-En-Scene

Avril Lavigne: Sk8ter boi
- Performance style music video
- Contains elements of narrative throughout it
- Representations of teenagers/skaters being rebellious

Establishing shot. Establishes urban setting, the spray cans connote antisocial behaviour, implying the "punk" type of vibe which would appeal to the teenaged audience.

The technologies featured appeal to teenagers in the early 2000's.

The camerawork, from the beginning, is fast, handheld, it gives the sense to the audience that they"re with them.

Riding the BMX off the bus gives a rebellious representation of the characters in the video.

Many female artists are represented in their music videos with sexualised elements, primarily through clothing. However the protagonist in this video is wearing rather casual clothing, which gives the impression to the audience that she is a dominant figure within the music video.

The protagonist is standing in front of the other characters, in which implicates that she is the leader, re-enforcing the idea that she is a dominant, rebellious figure.

Typically, pop artists cannot play instruments themselves, the characters within this playing instruments, indicates that they're talented, which is appealing to audience as they feel they  relate to them

The protagonist is standing on the car (above the crowd) again connoting that she is the leader, and shows her authority, giving a sense of dominance, and rebellion (due to her standing on the car)

Wheatus: Teenage dirt back
Performance & Narrative
Representations of typical American high school students

Here is the classic "high school nerd", as we can see from the winter hat being worn, in what it looks to be mid summer.

Establishes female protagonist, the hair flick romanticises her, giving the impression to the audience that she and the male protagonist will fall in love.

Wednesday 11th May 2022

                                                      Media Codes and conventions

  • Do artists perform? If so, to who?
Yes, to the audience/crowd in the video.

  • Is there of sense of 'naturalism' created through the use of MES and setting? If so, how is this created?
Yes, due to the use of stereotypes being enforced, the sense that what is happening, is                              normal is created.

  • How does it follow media conventions?
It follows media conventions, primarily through the correct use of Mise-En-Scene and                              camerawork, however elements of editing & performance slightly contribute as well.

  • Is any diegetic sound used, how and why?
Yes, there are diegetic sounds, in which they match the narrative & are used to convey realism                within the video.

  • Love & sexuality is represented in both as predominantly heterosexual relations.
  • Teenagers are represented with their stereotypical outlets. For example, in Teenage Dirtbag, the narrative consists of the social hierarchy at high school, in which is enforced in the video as clearly shown in the narrative. In Skater Boy, the narrative is based upon teenagers in the city, therefore the narrative has very strong elements of urban lifestyle regarding teenagers (specifically skaters), therefore using stereotypes in which suit that tone of narrative.
  • In both, it is relatively gender neutral, however in Teenage dirtbag there is a slight imbalance to do with cast, however it is more or less gender neutral.
  • In both, they lack a diverse range of ethnicity, in Teenage Dirtbag there is an obvious absence of non-white individuals. In Skater Boy there is a much more multi-cultural range of cast, however it still lacks the diverse range of ethnicity.
  • The artist in Skater Boy, is represented as dominant, this is shown due to the female being the lead role, considering many females are sexualised and objectified in music videos, however in this the protagonist is not, this can be seen my her clothes, body language etc... Also considering that in many shots she is either in front of the other characters, or even literally standing above them, and this implicates to an audience that the protagonist is a dominant figure. In Teenage Dirtbag, the protagonist is at first shown as a disregarded character (as shown through the narrative) The classic high school nerd), then becomes the dominant figure at the end. This use of stereotypes make the audience feel sorry for the protagonist, in which the narrative then proceeds towards the end, showing the protagonist getting his own way, which creates a sense of dominance.
